Teachers' TV II

Now I’ve mentioned the Teachers’ TV channel before, when it was in production rather than a reality tucked away in the high numbers of satellite telly. I’m sure it keeps moving too – when it first started it was near to channel 666 and next to a channel for gay dating, but it’s since moved up the league tables to the 500s – at the time of writing anyway. The first week it was on I flicked through the schedule to see what caught my eye, but found that it all seemed a little repetitive; in fact, I believe that over the first fortnight the same programmes were on at various times of the day in rotation. So far, so mundane. I even tried watching it for a little bit, but the three talking heads discussing something snooze-worthy in front of a brown background was a bit off-putting.

Then there were some programmes scheduled that might be of interest and use to me, so I set them to record, because at times I am actually a conscientious teacher, believe it or not. I can’t actually tell you much about them though, because weeks later they are still there, hopefully recorded (I haven’t checked) and waiting to be watched. So when am I going to get round to watching them? Ummmm… good question. Weekends are too busy with everything I can’t cram into weekdays before I collapse on the sofa. The precious few moments of weekday evenings are for chilling out and trying to forget the chaos of the day, so the last thing I want to do in my time between work and sleep is to watch more work. So I keep adding it to my mental list of things to do over the holidays – except that when those holidays come, I’ll be glad to see the back of anything school related for a few days, and even morning telly will seem more appealing than watching Inset-vision. So what’s the point, I wonder? I’m sure there’s always going to be something better on when I’m plonked in front of the TV, even if I am tempted to sling away the remote control in disgust and pick up the paper instead.
